Praise Be , Now Pass Me Another One of Them There Biscuits
An email with this article /study news came in my mailbox from my Mom the other day ( in the subject line):
Big Bottoms Are Good for Health
One question a man hates to be asked is, “Does my butt look too big in this?”( quick answer with me is , um ,yes --always--no matter how much weight I lose ) But researchers suggest the healthy answer could be “yes.” They believe that the type of fat women hate, the kind that collects around the hips, may offer health benefits including helping protect women against Type 2 diabetes.
The type of fat that accumulates under the skin — called subcutaneous fat — may improve sensitivity to insulin, which regulates levels of blood sugar and may protect people against developing diabetes. So, a generous bottom may mean a lower risk of developing diabetes. In addition, the fat around bottoms may also produce hormones called adipokines, which may counteract the negative effects caused by abdominal fat (also known as visceral fat).
Scientists at Harvard Medical School found even more good news for pear-shaped people: They are less likely to develop heart disease.
Study leader Dr. Ronald Kahn gave mice transplants of subcutaneous fat deep into their abdomens. The mice began to lose weight after several weeks and their fat cells shrank. The insulin levels and blood sugar also improved.
“The surprising thing was that it wasn’t where the fat was located, it was the kind of fat that was the most important variable,” said Dr. Kahn. “Even more surprising, it wasn’t that abdominal fat was exerting negative effects, but that subcutaneous fat was producing a good effect.”
I am all over this study. Thanks , this here fat bottomed girl is very appreciative. And Eddie likes this bubble butt.I am one lucky gal.
Troubles , I Got Some
I have been regaining my strength daily, with the help of my beloved Eddie and twice a week physical therapy.
A great recent development is that my health insurance is finally paying some of my bills.
They had to helicopter lifeline me to an orthopedic clinic in the next larger town that dealt with pelvic injuries the day of my accident , bill was a staggering 15 K --finally got paid by my health insurance the other day.
What a relief.
I have over 100 K bills from the accident.
I have a personal injury lawyer helping me sort all this who pays what ( health or car insurances, they tend to try and let the other one pay so consequently squat gets paid).
That day is etched in my memory ( the pieces I remember when I was conscious), much like the day that Tom died.
I certainly thought that my quota for pain and drama was fulfilled the day that Tom was killed .The months/years of pain I endured mourning his loss and my search for a new life in shadow of what had been.
Apparently I was wrong.
However, scrappy survivor that I turned out to be (I even surprised myself at the fortitude I have been able to produce ) along with the help of those that love me, I am returning from yet another change of circumstance with a few more of life's lessons tucked away .
I have noticed that nowadays I could stand to use the handicapped toilet stall when I'm out and about the raised toilet is much more comfy for me still ...they are always in use.
Now , I will admit that I have used them in the past when I had no need for them, except that the normal ones were full.Sounds like a touch of karma to me.*Sighs*
Some of these cans out there are extremely low to the ground , and you'd only notice if you were ,well , indisposed as I am currently .
I'm not quite up to par yet, but I'm getting more and more flexible again ...I'll be back up and bellydancin 'fore ya know it !
Valentines Banquet Feb 09
Freshly Brewed
Today I got up early and made coffee. Sounds simple doesn't it.
Well it is now.
Considering for nearly three months I was broken and weak and needed help to do the easiest tasks, this is a landmark event.
It's a tad strong, but nuttin a lil water won't dilute....

A Day Late and A Dollar Short...As Always...
Apparently yesterday was National Pie Day.
I love me some pie.
I didn't have any to mark the occasion with either.
*Pout*
However, the day before I scored a pecan pie slice that Eddie's Ma had given him in a Tupperware container at some point over the holidays.
Eddie said " toss it, it's probably moldy", but my sniffer deduced otherwise .
I mean it's been in the fridge sealed -- pecans, corn syrup , pie crust...none of those things get bad all too fast under those conditions.
So , that was a lucky find amongst a ton of science experiments I helped him toss out.
Some were from the holidays, some from his granny who left for FL about a month ago and some were from me from before the accident.
So yeah, between the two of us we cleaned stuff out .Now the shelves just need wiped .
That's for another day.
I still wish I woulda has some celebratory pie yesterday...
Thanks

Ghosts, Goblins, Punkins, Costumes and Sweet , Sweet Candy

It seems that my sweetie and I are officially in our birthday week.
His birthday is October 30 , and mine is October 31.
That's something alright.
I always tease him about being a "Halloweenie Wannabee".
'Cuz yanno I am the real deal.
As we both age further into our 40's ( a good thing , really), I am struck by ( duck ! *snort*) how grateful I really am to have found someone who makes my life so rich by just being in it .
I don't actually need another dust magnet tschotchkie , his love ( oh yeah I said that gooey thing --sticky sweet like caramel isn't it ?!) is the best present I could ever have imagined at this time of my life.
Oh and we have matching era costumes .
Twenties flapper here with my gangster ( he's in the counterfeit money business not just an ordinary hooch runner ), it's going to be interesting as I haven't been seen in a dress for at least a decade now.
I might let youse guys & dolls see a picture of us in full regalia.
Smorgasborg of Kinfolk, Friends and BBQs
This summer has overflowed with family reunions ( his not mine) , friends from what seems like another lifetime ( mine and his) and my Eddie's Grill masterpieces.
That man can grill meat like no one's business.
He whips up these delish marinades , and with the help of my handy meat thermometer ( we call it a "probe" ), many a gourmet feast has been enjoyed in this neck of the woods.
I busy myself making the sides , and sometimes the desserts.
He also can build very pretty fires.
I hadn't enjoyed roasted marshmallows since the late 80's sometime.I like 'em brown , never burned.
I've been invited to attend many of his family's assorted reunions so far.One in Alabama , and one just a tad more than an hour away .
He has nice family, and so I have enjoyed meeting all these people.
I am very social if nothing else.
Some of those regional accents were pretty thick, but the food was plentiful and the atmosphere was welcoming.
A few of the friends have come here , some we've gone out to see , and we've made some new connections along the way.
It's all good.
