How Could I Have Almost Forgotten?

How Could I Have Almost Forgotten?

Am I so in the here and now that I would not have remembered that on the 24th we would have been married for 24 years?

Not only that but I got it mixed up with my stepdaughter's birthday which is on the 22nd ....

Life has been so hectic lately with putting this house on the market and planning our grand escape that I realized yesterday that my wedding anniversary was practically staring me in the face . Come to think of it ,this happened to me last year too, I didn't really remember until a day or so before.

Perhaps it's a survival mechanism for me.

The hardest date so far has been Sept.24 , 2002 it was a strange feeling to realize how hollow that day felt , as he had just died in July .

My Dad , Steff the dog and myself all left for Texas the day after , and one part of me needed the geographic shift , and the other part of me already mourned the memories.

We didn't even make it to 20 years .

I will make comments to Stefanie about the day , I don't even talk to my parents about Tom much anymore.

Tom got cold feet that day crisp fall day in the Alps while we were eating breakfast in downtown Garmisch a few hours before the ceremony at town hall .

He was all "Are we doing the right thing?" I was 8 months pregnant , looking across the breakfast table at him and was like " Sorry bub, too late now !"

I never had a qualm or worry , it felt right to me.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
My oldest daughter's birthday is the 24th, she will be 23. She was born on the first day of Autumn.
((hugs)) to you from afar.

Hugs and empathy from me, too. Maybe it's a positive sign that you're only noticing 3 days in advance. I believe that Tom is still with you and he'll be celebrating your anniversary, too. You're in my thoughts today.
